Domaine Saint Jean de Roca
In a hidden valley, surrounded by vineyards, just 20 minutes from golden Mediterranean beaches, Nizas is the perfect location for your holiday. Midway between the tourist areas of Provence and Carcassonne and close to the Pyrenees and Spain, Nizas is the true heart of the South of France.
For over 1000 years visitors to our village have discovered the warm hospitality, the local wine and the Mediterranean sunshine (the region has the highest average in France of 300 sunny days a year).
Today Nizas remains an unspoilt working wine making village inviting you to share the traditions and festivities of rural France.
Wine making has been an important occupation in the region for thousands of years. The romans exported wine from this valley two thousand years ago and before them the Greek and Phoenician traders shipped local wine in amphora made from local clay.
The wine here is excellent due to the combination of south east facing slopes, light stony dry soil and mediterranean sunshine. In Nizas all these things come together in perfect harmony.
Michel Soulairol is the propietor of the Domaine Saint Jean de Roca. He comes from a long line of Languedocian wine making families and is delighted to offer you the fruits of his labour in the wines made on the domaine. The wines are made in the traditonal way from selected grape varieties, hand picked and pressed in the cellars on the estate.
A total of 20 hectares (about 50 acres) of vines produces a range of local wines, half "VIN DE PAYS" and half AOC (Applellation d'Origine Controlee) "COTEAUX DU LANGUEDOC" and "CLAIRETTE DU LANGUEDOC".
Michel Soulairol and his charming wife Dominique live on the domaine with their young family. Michel is the Mayor of Nizas. They hope you will enjoy the wine and your visit to Nizas.
