In my Weblogs and Newsletters I am often accused of writing about subjects which a reader does not agree with. In some cases I am threatened, usually with action to "close down my sites" and sometimes worse.
My answer is that if they do not like what I publish, then please do not read the material and unsubscribe.
I do try to be objective and I also try to publish all relevant replies without bias. I will not write or report anything which I consider offensive or inflammatory. Some recent events in France have been reported all around the world, where possible I have mentioned some points which have not received wide publicity, in most cases these are to counterbalance tabliod sensationalism, the mistranslation of "railleur" for example. One reason I chose to move to France is because I believe that France and its people have contributed a lot to the thoughts and values of civilization. Much of this is shown in the "Rights of Man" published in France in 1798. I also deeply respect the principles of the American constitution and the "Declaration of Human Rights" which the United Nations adopted in 1948. (French version of Declaration of Human Rights). I am not saying that the UK is or was worse or wrong - I admire the British systems of law and many of the efforts at social reform - it just happens that at the time we decided to move to France education and healthcare, for a young family, was in a mess in the UK and, at the time, I believed some policies were misadvised. In some countries, recent events and emergency laws may make it difficult for some of our rights to be available - in particular and relevant to these notes... Article 19 "Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers." My Weblogs and Newsletters are writen from my feeling and observations as a French resident. The aim is to help and advise others who may live in France or are considering moving to France. I am open to comment and will be guided by the opinions of others, but I will not be influenced by threats.
