This site about life in France - Nizas.com - is named after a magical small village nestled in a valley near the Mediterranean in the South of France where we lived for ten years. The aim of this website, my Weblogs and Newsletters is to share with you our experiences - the hurdles and pitfalls, plus a lot of the happiness we have found living in France. If you are thinking of coming to France, from a short break to a lifetime, there is something here for you. ![]() The Medieval village of Nizas, in the Herault Valley Aerial photos of our old home and Nizas Through this site I hope to give help and information about life and living in France - we offer services to anyone coming to France to live or for a holiday. Our new property pages have information on Leasebacks and Property Sharing (Fractional Ownership). Do Contact Us if you are interested in living or investing in France In 1990 Carole, myself (Tony) and our two little girls Alexandra and Miranda (About Us) - came from the UK to live in France. We rented an apartment just North of Lyon for four years to make sure this was to be our home. Searching all the corners of France we finally decided, if we were to stay in France, we might as well move further south for the wonderful sunshine. We discovered Nizas in 1994, fell in love with a crumbling 10th century ruin and moved in that summer, our son Jack was born in Beziers later that year. The story of our life in France is written in my Newsletter but there is a lot more in these two thousand and one tales than just the usual "aren't we clever" rubbish - our problems starting a business, our failures and the horrors of the French tax police - but the wonders of the health services, education and the many friends we have found here balance the scales. In 2004 we moved just down the road from Nizas to our home in Montblanc, we now have more space and fewer steps which makes it possible for my mother to come to live with us We live in a small farming village in the Herault Valley, South of France, near the unique Rennaissance town of Pezenas. The earliest recorded details about Nizas are from the 9th and 10th centuries with references to the fortified tower in the heart of the village, but people have lived there for much longer. The 16th century Chateau is Probably on the site of a Greek or Roman villa and the Church has evidence of Roman foundations. We can help find accommodation for a visit and have a lot of experience or property sales in France - my advice is free and I do try to respond to all mail directly or through my newsletters, I support the site from advertising.
This site is about real people, this tribute is to Terry Thompson - a dear friend who lived in Nizas and played a mean sax. |

For thousands of years people have lived and worked on the farms in this fertile and fascinating country. This region is "The Land of Oc" this name still lives on as Languedoc (The Language of Oc) and the old language "Occitan" is still used by many people, it also gives a different sound to the French language which you hear in everyday speech.
